Here's How to Adopt a Project POOCH Dog
You reviewed our available dogs and found a dog you're interested in. Great! Here's what to do next.
Please Note: Project POOCH requires FIRST a completed application and SECOND a $50 deposit. If the dog is adopted, the $50 will be credited toward the adoption fee.
- Review with your family Before You Adopt a POOCH Dog.
- Fill out and submit an Adoption Application
Now that you have decided on a dog you're interested in adopting, you'll need to complete and submit an Adoption Application (Adobe Acrobat PDF document).
If you don't have Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it for free.
Please submit your application using one of these methods:
- FAX your completed application to 503-636-5908.
- Email it to firstname.lastname@example.org
- Mail it to:

- Kennel visit
Call our kennel (503) 981-2570, to make an appointment to meet our available dogs. Please note: Project POOCH's kennel is located inside MacLaren Youth Correctional Facility in Woodburn, Oregon (2630 N Pacific Highway, Woodburn, OR 97071). Kennel hours are 8:30 am-2:30 pm daily with a break between 11 and 12 noon. Visits are by appointment only.
- Submit the $50 deposit during the kennel visit, or via PayPal using the button below. If no home visit is made, the $50 application fee will be returned.
- Home visit
We will schedule a home visit where we'll bring the dog to your home. This will give us, you, and the dog an opportunity to see if he or she fits in with your home life. Please note: A key milestone each youth and dog must achieve is passing the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test. Typically this must be accomplished before the home visit can take place, and it definitely has to be complete before a dog can go home. As such, there may be some time between when an application is accepted and the time of the home visit.
- Trial visit
You and the dog you want will have an overnight or weekend visit to "see how it goes." (Like having a date, before you agree to go steady.) If the POOCH dog doesn't fit in with resident animals there will be no overnight.
There is an adoption fee of $250 – a very good value since your dog comes to you vaccinated, neutered/spayed, micro-chipped, with basic obedience training, and his or her Canine Good Citizen Certification.
Please Note: Sometimes two completed applications and deposits come in at the same time. In such cases, the applications will be reviewed and there may be visits to the homes of both potential adopters in order to find the best home for the dog being considered. There may be other reasons in which an application is denied, too. Project POOCH staff reserve the right to make the final decision regarding the best placement for the dog in question.
